Arlington Heights, Virginia is located across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. The area was once a part of the nation’s capital, but it became independent in 1847. Arlington County is actually the smallest registered county in the state of Virginia, and it has a rich political history due to its proximity to the nation’s capital. Some famous people who were born in Arlington, Virginia include Shirley MacLaine, Katie Couric and Warren Beatty. There are currently less than 200,00 people living in Arlington.

Arlington Virginia is located on the banks of the Potomac River, giving the area a beautiful skyline. There are many historical neighborhoods, which have definitely not lost their early American charm. Arlington County is not legally permitted to be the location of any federal government institutions. So, although the Pentagon is actually located in Arlington, the post office requires that the address be given as Washington, D.C. Many people do not realize this!
